The National Center for Health Statistics has just released new data indicating divorce rates across the nation have fallen. In 2008, there were 3.5 divorces per 1,000 people; in 2009, the number decreased to 3.4 divorces per 1,000 people. How did North Carolina fare?
Unlike the rest of the nation, North Carolina saw its divorce rate increase. According to the preliminary numbers released, almost 37,000 people divorced in 2009, up from about 35,500 in 2008.
Most states saw a slight decrease in divorce rates, however, Connecticut, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania all saw double-digit decreases.
